Leadlights are very similar to stained glass windows, but they are less complex in their designs – being mere designs instead of portraying a picture – and are also simpler to manufacture. Most stained glass has been painted and then fired in a kiln before being assembled. Leadlights do not need painted, however, and so skip this extra step, which saves in cost.
While the popularity of stained glass and leadlights died down for a while in history, the late 20th century saw a revival in its use, and not only in churches and businesses. Its manufacture had become more affordable and so it began to be more popular for the average homeowner.
